About Newstead

Get directions

Newstead is a riverside suburb and home of the the heritage-listed Newstead House, Brisbane’s oldest existing home built in 1846. The suburb’s present role as a “gentrified” residential suburb belies its industrial past and the tall iron structure of the No. 2 gasholder on Longland Street is a remnant of the Newstead Gasworks, established in 1887, now part of a new commercial and residential development.
