Fairfield is a riverside suburb 4.5km south of Brisbane city. It is thought to have been named after the property settled by W.D. Grimes in about 1850, south of Dutton Park. A considerable part of the property consisted of wetland and lagoons and was used for dairying. A new local post office and the Corinda to Stanley Street railway line through Fairfield began the area’s “urbanisation” from about 1884.
