The World Cup has gotten off to a controversial start, with Brazilian striker Fred accused of diving to earn a penalty. But was he acting, or was he pushed?
Croation coach Niko Kovac made his opinion clear, blasting Japanese referee Yuichi Nishimura for calling the penalty after Fred backed into Croation defender Dejean Lovren and fell over.
“If anybody saw that was a penalty, let them raise their hand,” Kovac said. “I cannot raise my hand. I didn’t see it. If you continue in this vein then there will be 100 penalties during this World Cup.”
Was the penalty “ridiculous”, as Kovac believes, or was it a fair call? Have your say below!
