Brisbane’s first Costco opens in North Lakes this week, but will you pay for the privilege of shopping there?
The fervent Costco fanbase in Brisbane has had an anxious wait for this store to open, but the day is almost here. If you’re not one of those hardcore fans, here’s what you need to know — Costco is a membership warehouse club, which means you’ll have to apply online for a membership card before you can visit or shop at the store.
Members pay an annual fee to join the Costco club, and once they’re in, they can buy industrial amounts of pretty much anything — groceries, confectionary, appliances, televisions, automotive supplies, toys, hardware, sporting goods, jewellery, watches, cameras, books, housewares, apparel, health and beauty aids, tobacco, furniture, office equipment, even hearing aides and 10kg boxes of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate. Read our detailed story about how it all works here.
A basic Costco membership will set you back $55 per year. So, is it worth it for you?

Last week, we asked you whether or not Frances Abbott should have accepted her $60,000 scholarship to the Whitehouse Institute of Design, and the results were conclusive — 62 per cent of you said she didn’t deserve a free ride. Just 33 per cent believed she earned her scholarship on merit, and a further 5 per cent had no idea who she was. Sorry, Frances!
