Whether you’ve ever dreamed of working on Wall Street or the thrill of being a spy, these films may have served some inspiration…

1. Stockbroker

On Wall Street money never sleeps or so they say. This film tells the story of Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen), a young stockbroker desperate to succeed who becomes involved with his hero, Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), a wealthy, unscrupulous corporate raider.

2. Agent

Jerry Maguire is a film that reminds us that we should aim to love what we do. Tom Cruise plays top sports agent Jerry Maguire who questions his firm’s actions and is given the sack. He fights back by setting up his own company with just one client (Cuba Gooding Jr). It’s a battle but he succeeds and he gets the girl as well. “Show me the money” we say!

3. Journalist

The Year of Living Dangerously – Mel Gibson plays a journalist and Sigourney Weaver an embassy officer in this film set in Indonesia during the overthrow of President Sukarno. It follows a group of foreign correspondents in Jakarta on the eve of an attempted coup by the 30 September Movement in 1965. Linda Hunt (pictured) is brilliant as photographer Billy Kwan.

4. FBI agent

Miss Congeniality – Sandra Bullock is an FBI agent who must go undercover in the Miss United States beauty pageant to prevent a group from bombing the event. It’s a tough job, but waxed and preened, ‘Gracie Hart’ pulls it off.

5. Magazine contributor

The Devil Wears Prada – keen to work on a magazine? This movie will fix that. Anne Hathaway plays Andrea Sachs, a college graduate who goes to New York and lands a job as a co-assistant to powerful fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly. Vogue editor Anna Wintour is believed to have been the inspiration for Priestly. It’s a tough gig … nothing like working at bmag.
