Can Blade Runner 2049 deliver on 35 years of anticipation? Probably.
Following a teaser earlier this year, the first real trailer for Blade Runner 2049 has dropped today, and it’s got us hyped.
A lot has changed since 1982, when the original film was released (and the first CD was sold). But Harrison Ford is still a movie star, executive producer Ridley Scott is still a creative force, and the future Los Angeles is still overrun with neon.
The great Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario) will direct this sequel, from a script by Hampton Fancher (who penned the original movie) and Michael Green. Ryan Gosling stars as LAPD Officer K, a new generation of blade runner, and Harrison Ford is back in a supporting role, joined by Jared Leto and Robin Wright.
As you can tell from the trailer, though, the most important element of the new film might be ace cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall, No Country For Old Men) — Blade Runner 2049 looks absolutely gorgeous, and we have him to thank for that.
Blade Runner 2049 opens on Thursday 5 October. We’ll be waiting.
