US President Barack Obama, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto have shared an awkward handshake for the ages.

The three leaders are in Ottawa at the moment for their final North American Leaders’ Summit.

Obama and Trudeau are usually known for their smooth approaches to public appearances, but when the three tried to engage in a rare three-way handshake, the results were hilariously awkward.

After the handshake, the three got on with the press conference, which largely concentrated on the rise of Donald Trump and the Brexit result, with Obama noting that anti-immigration sentiment has been ‘exploited by demagogues before’.

Nieto took a less subtle approach, directly comparing Trump to Hitler and Mussolini.

The conference ended with a laugh, at least, as Trudeau mocked Obama’s ‘pending retirement’, getting a laugh out of the President.
