The uber-prolific JJ Abrams has just released yet another project — Moon Shot, a web docuseries based on Google and XPRIZE’s attempt to involve private entities in space exploration.

The series, which is streaming for free, is directed by Academy Award winner Orlando von Einsiedel and produced by Abrams.

In the last year alone, Abrams has directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and produced 10 Cloverfield Lane, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Star Trek Beyond, 11.22.63, and now this ambitious web series.

The inspirational series is all about the power of science, as each episode focuses on one of the teams competing to win the $30 million Google Lunar XPRIZE challenge.

The winner will be whichever team’s rover makes it to the surface of the moon first and travels 500 metres (and takes pictures to prove it).

The entrants come from around the world, so each episode of the beautifully shot series will focus on the culture of each team’s country, as well as their strategy for getting to the moon.
