As a young child, you were most likely taught to look right and then left before crossing the street. These wild chimps appear to have taught themselves.

This video shows a small number of apes crossing a road in Uganda, all dutifully following the road safety rules to make sure they arrive on the other side safely.

Researchers who have been studying these chimps say the apes are having to adapt to cope with urban development with roads are becoming increasingly busy and cutting through ape territory. This is noteworthy because it is the first time chimpanzees have been seen to change their behaviour to adapt to busy roads.

In addition to high intelligence, these apes show love and a need to protect each other with the alpha ape waiting to make sure all of his team crossed safely.
