Brisbane have extended the deal of star halfback Ben Hunt until the end of the 2017 NRL season.

Brisbane halfback Ben Hunt has committed his future to the Broncos, re-signing with the NRL club until the end of 2017.

Hunt was off-contract at the end of next season but the Broncos have moved quickly to snare the 24-year-old following his breakthrough 2014 campaign.

The No.7 established himself as a bone fide NRL playmaker during the year, and was briefly in contention for the Dally M medal on Monday night before eventually finishing in fifth position with 28 votes.

Hunt was also narrowly pipped for halfback of the year honours by Manly’s Daly Cherry-Evans, but has been named to play halfback for the Prime Minister’s XI against Papua New Guinea on October 12.

“It certainly has been a week to remember,” Hunt said.

“The Broncos have been great to me … I was really happy to stay.”
