A man who allegedly threatened police with a knife and drove on the wrong side of a Brisbane motorway at night with no head lights on, will face court.

A man allegedly pulled a knife on police after driving head-on at motorists on the wrong side of a Brisbane motorway.

Drivers were forced to swerve out of the way as a car drove on the wrong side of the Gateway Motorway without its headlights on about 1am (AEST) on Thursday.

The same car had earlier driven on the wrong side of the Bruce Highway at North Lakes, police said.

The driver allegedly threatened officers with a knife when he was stopped at a worksite at Deagon, before speeding off again, but was intercepted again a short time later.

A 35-year-old man is due to front the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with assaulting police while armed, dangerous driving and failing to stop.
