Police believe a woman found dead in a tiny beach community in far north Queensland was murdered.

A woman’s death in a sleepy far north Queensland village is being treated as a homicide.

Police say the 26-year-old’s body was found outside a home on the main street of Bingil Bay on Saturday afternoon.

Detective Acting Superintendent Bruno Asnicar won’t say how she died or if she had any visible injuries, but says her death is suspicious and being treated as a homicide.

He says several people are assisting police and the woman is not a local.

“She was staying with somebody overnight, not in her own home,” Det Supt Asnicar told reporters.

A forensic pathologist is investigating.
