Adelaide United will need to make at least five changes for their clash against A-League pacesetters Brisbane Roar on Saturday.

A depleted Adelaide United will need to change half their side for a daunting away fixture against A-League frontrunners Brisbane Roar on Saturday.

Frontman Bruce Djite (groin), attacking midfielder Cirio (hamstring) and winger Fabio Ferreria (groin) are expected to miss the match, while defender Osama Malik is suspended.

And Jake Barker-Daish, who scored in Adelaide’s 2-2 draw with Sydney FC on Friday night, is unavailable due to national under-22 duties.

Djite and Cirio were on Monday awaiting scan results to determine the extent of their injuries. They were forced off within 10 minutes of each other against the Sky Blues.

Ferreria, on his return from a two-match absence with a groin strain, departed late in the second half complaining of groin soreness.

Adelaide, languishing in eighth spot with just three wins this season, will rush back striker Jeronimo Neumann from a one-game suspension.

And playmaker Marcelo Carrusca is tipped to return from a bruised knee which sidelined him last start.

But defender Malik will miss the trip to Brisbane after being banned a match for receiving a fifth yellow card for the season.

The Reds’ ranks have been further thinned by Barker-Daish, Ryan Kitto and John Hall being unavailable because of Australian under-22 commitments, though untried defender Jordan Elsey has returned to Adelaide after a short stint in Hong Kong.

Elsey was set for a loan deal with Kitchee FC, the former club of Adelaide coach Josep Gombau.

But Kitchee didn’t sign the 19-year-old Elsey, instead favouring a trial of an experienced Korean defender.

“It was bad luck for him,” Gombau said on Monday.

“But in the end, it is also good for us now as we need to add some depth to cover the players we have unavailable.”
