In the last few years, the number of small businesses in Australia has soared to a whopping two million.
More and more people are starting up their own companies and looking to be their own boss, but it’s not as easy as they think. In fact, one in three businesses fail in their first two years of operation.
But if you are struggling to run a business or you’re thinking of starting one up, there is help at hand!
The Small Business Expo is on this weekend at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, and is free to attend.
The Small Business Expo covers all facets of planning, opening and successfully maintaining a business, featuring over 50 advisory specialists providing legal, financial, building and design advice all for free.
There will also be presentations given by industry experts, successful entrepreneurs and some of Australia’s largest business owners including Phillip Di Bella, Ian Healy and Alistair Roberts.
Chris Davies, General Manager and Founder of The Small Business Expo, says that one major reason small businesses fail is that they don’t do enough planning.
“People don’t realise how many steps are involved in making a business successful,” he says. “They think it’s easy and they can take public holidays off and relax, but they forget that they are the last person to get paid, after staffing costs and bills etc. People also need to learn how to spend their money wisely.”
Chris says he started the Expo because he wants to educate people.
“I got sick of seeing people maxing out their credit cards and losing their life savings,” he says.
“So many people start off on the wrong foot and sink. Having a business should be a fun thing!”
Chris says he just wants people to know they are not on their own, and that the Expo will give them plenty of help and advice.
The Small Business Expo is open to anyone and is on from Saturday 23 May to Sunday 24 May from 10am to 4pm at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
