2015 is set to be Brisbane’s biggest year yet. With international retailers setting up shop, a slew of delicious new restaurants opening their doors, epic sporting events kicking off and some of the biggest and best musicals and shows coming to town it will be a year to remember. Here is everything you have to look forward to in 2015.
Not one but two new H&M stores will be opening in Brisbane in 2015!
The international fashion retailer will set up shop at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre in March 2015, with a second store to be opened at 170 Queen Street, Brisbane CBD in late 2015. H&M stores stock clothing for women, men and children and are refreshed daily with new fashion items.
Spanish fashion retail giant Zara have been teasing Brisbane shoppers for more than a year, but it looks like 2015 may see the river city get its very own store.Speculation is ride that Zara will set up shop in Queen Street Mall, but since construction has yet to begin and nothing has been officially announced it looks like we still have a while to wait.
At the moment, Brisbane shoppers wanting to snap up some Zara purchases have to make the journey to Gold Coast’s Robina Town Centre, where Zara opened their first Queensland store a few months ago.
Lovers of all things luxe will be excited to learn that high-end British fashion house Burberry is set to open its doors in Brisbane’s CBD in 2015.
Burberry is set to open a 278 square metre store in Queens Plaza next to Herringbone and Max Mara, which will front Edward Street.The store is set to be Burberry’s sixth stand-alone retail store in Australia and its first in Queensland. Christian Dior is tipped to follow Burberry, opening a stand-alone store in Queens Plaza in early 2015.

Broadway’s number one show is set to thrill Brisbane at the Lyric Theatre from 12 February 2015. Awe-inspiring and spectacular, Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz. When Wicked opened on Broadway, it worked its magic on critics and audiences alike. As the winner of 90 major awards including a Grammy, three Tony Awards and six Helpmann Awards including Best Musical, it has been labeled the defining musical of the past decade.

Queensland Theatre Company 2015 program
Here’s another item you should add to your New Year’s resolution list — treat yourself to more live theatre. Luckily for you, Queensland Theatre Company has unveiled a diverse and ambitious program that will see you flocking to the stage.
The year starts with David Mamet’s witty comedy Boston Marriage and ends with the world premiere of an outstanding new musical called Ladies in Black. Chenoa Deemal tells touching, funny stories in The 7 Stages of Grieving, a powerful story by Wesley Enoch and Deborah Mailman. Margi Brown Ash shares her life story in Home, bouncing across several continents as actor, therapist, schoolgirl, soapie starlet, wife and mother. Naomi Price will transform into pop star Adele in Rumour Has It – a Grammy goddess ready to spill her guts about the man who wronged her.
Brisbane Arts Theatre
Give your funny bone a workout in 2015 with these quirky offerings from Brisbane Arts Theatre.
From 21 March to 19 April you’ll have the chance to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and from 24 January to 28 March Roald Dahl’s Three Little Pigs will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about this classic tale. From 22 November to 13 December you can catch Wyrd Sisters and see how beloved Discworld author Terry Pratchett draws on Shakespearean tragedy to create a unique fantastical comedy.
Brisbane Comedy Festival
You’ve seen them on TV, heard them on radio, read about them in the papers and followed them on Twitter. Now see them live and up close doing what they do best – stand-up comedy. Some of Australia’s funniest comedians have been confirmed for the 2015 Brisbane Comedy Festival and are now getting ready to deliver non-stop laughs for the month-long event. Running from 24 February to 22 March across Brisbane, the festival will feature performances from the likes of Wil Anderson, Hannah Gadsby and Tom Ballard.
The Manhattan Line
The Manhattan Line is opening in South Bank on New Year’s Eve and is set to bring a touch of New York to 3a Little Stanley Street. On the drinks menu will be a selection of American whiskies, scotches, rums, beers and cocktails. On the foodie side of things will be a varied selection of hot dogs that will make you feel like you’re taking a stroll through the Big Apple.
Have you been searching Brisbane for the perfect jaffle? Well, Morning After may just be what you’ve been looking for. It’s the brainchild of Dell’Ugo South Bank duo Yiannis Passaris and his mum Soula, who will be closing the doors of their iconic Italian restaurant in the new year.
Specialty coffee and foods such as 60-degree eggs with asparagus and gourmet jaffles will be served up for breakfast and lunch at this new eatery. Set to open in March 2015, Morning After will be located beneath West End’s The Glass Factory apartments.
James Street is set to get a taste of Greece when Gyradiko opens its doors in early January 2015. You’ll be feeling full and happy after sampling a gyro, pita bread filled with your choice of chicken or pork, salad and tzatziki served with chips.
Can You Keep A Secret?
Vintage boutique Can You Keep A Secret? has said goodbye to Greenslopes and set up shop in Woolloongabba. The store is now located at 619 Stanley Street and has added a surprising new twist just in time for the New Year. Can You Keep A Secret? will soon be opening a retro-themed bar on site, with food trucks swinging by regularly to give vintage style hunters the chance to try out a range of tasty treats.
Nothing says margaritas like celebrating the start of a new year.
Word on the street is that the soon-to-be-opened Los Villanos will stock the largest range of tequila in Brisbane,along with serving up some delicious icy margaritas. The venue is set to open in the new year and will be located in the Petrie Terrace and Caxton Street dining precinct.
Red Robin Supper Truck and Death Valley
It’s two for the price of one!
The Red Robin Supper Club will be joining forces with Southside Tea Room to open a new venue in Morningside in 2015. A craft beer bar, Death Valley, is also set to open in the new year and will pop up next to the Southside Tea Room.
Now in its seventh year, the Brisbane International has established itself as a highlight of Queensland’s summer events calendar and Queensland tennis fans experience first-hand, the excitement as the world’s top players begin their assault on the new season.
Running from 4 January to 11 January at the Queensland Tennis Centre in Tennyson, the event will see 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer headlining the men’s field.
AFC Asian Cup
The 16 best teams in Asia will meet in Australia in January 2015 to compete for the AFC Asian Cup, the most sought-after trophy in Asian football.
- From 10 January to 22 January 2015 at Suncorp Stadium, you can be part of the biggest football tournament ever to take place in Australia as the region’s dynamos battle it out. Brisbane will play host to seven games, including the Socceroos versus Korea Republic and a quarter-final.
ICC Cricket World Cup
The ICC Cricket World Cup provides a rare opportunity for Australia and New Zealand to co-host a major international sporting event.
Running from 21 February to 1 March 2015, the world cup will be held at The Gabba and is a once in a generation event that captures the spectacle, the inclusive spirit, the shared passion and the friendly rivalry between Australia and New Zealand.
