The music industry’s night of nights was all about glamour, epic performances and THAT hat – here are our picks of the night’s top moments!

1. The frocks and fashion

The Grammy Awards brought glam and fun to the red carpet, with bold looks and alternative fashion the aesthetic of the night. No Gaga-esque giant eggs in sight, but glitter and gold was clearly on the fashion memo, realised by Amber Rose, Christine Teigen and Ciara in a gorgeous, figure-hugging frock that showed off her pregnancy. Graphic prints were also popular, with Ashanti, Kathy Griffin and Foxes all rocking bold, bright, head-to-toe prints.

2. The performances

The performances were spectacular, as is to be expected at the Grammys, with Beyonce and Jay Z heating up the stage with Drunk in Love (above), Taylor Swift hitting up the piano with a head-banging rendition of All Too Well, and 17 year-old New Zealand talent Lorde (who picked up two awards, one for Song of the Year and the other for Best Pop Solo Performance) performing her hit track Royals. Daft Punk (who cleaned up with five awards on the night) also performed with Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder.

3. The political statements

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed their marriage equality anthem Same Love (after taking out four awards including Best New Artist) with Madonna as 34 couples were married onstage – with rap veteran Queen Latifah officiating. Katy Perry caught one of the bouquets thrown, uploading a photo to Instagram captioned with a message of support: “Congrats to all the #samelove couples tonight. You had me in tears of joy for y’all! Also… Look who caught the bouquet!!! #okuuuurrrr”

4. Missing Miley

Controversy stayed at home with Miley Cyrus – she tweeted a photo from home showing she spent the night playing Guitar Hero. Also missing was Justin Bieber who was reportedly involved in an intervention of sorts after his arrest in Miami early last week.

5. Pharrell’s Hatpharrell grammys - web

The Grammys are the perfect time to experiment with daring fashion, but this year saw one item of clothing in particular dominate discussions – Pharrell Williams’ hat, which prompted the creation of a dedicated Twitter account which now has over 17,000 followers (and counting). Large and oddly-shaped, it has been compared to Smokey Bear’s ranger hat and is the talk of the town.
