We have to dance for Laura!
A slew of Brisbane musicians are getting together for Fire Walk With Us: The Music of Twin Peaks, a live re-imagining of songs and music from TV series Twin Peaks and its spin-off prequel film, Fire Walk With Me.
Composed by Angelo Badalamenti and series co-creator David Lynch, the show’s music is renowned for its atmospheric minimalism and for the haunting female vocals of Julee Cruise.
These sinister soundscapes will be reinterpreted in The Junk Bar’s Skukum Lounge, a space with a distinctly Lynch-ian vibe, by a broad range of talents, from jazz musicians to avant-garde noisemakers.
Led by vocalists Mia Goodwin, Lucinda Shaw, SS.Sebastian and Tylea, the band will include James Lees, Helen Svoboda, Parmis Rose, Jamie Trevaskis and Andrew Sargossi.
The show will be presented by Electric Moon, the same company responsible for recent productions of Ziggy Stardust at Melt Festival, Lou Reed’s Transformer: The Album in Concert at Wonderland, and In The Warm Room: The Music of Kate Bush at the Queensland Cabaret Festival.
Unsurprisingly, considering the excitement surrounding the show’s 2017 revival, this isn’t the only Twin Peaks show taking place in Brisbane soon.
As we’ve previously reported, US experimental pop group Xiu Xiu — whose reinterpretations of the Twin Peaks soundtrack have been praised by David Lynch himself — will play GOMA’s Australian Cinematheque on Saturday 24 June.
Fire Walk With Us: The Music of Twin Peaks will be held at The Junk Bar’s Skukum Lounge (215 Waterworks Road, Ashgrove) on Wednesday 23 August, Thursday 24 August and Friday 25 August. Tickets are available now at oxtix.com.au.
