Two Australian music legends will feature in the exclusive Brisbane production of Green Day’s American Idiot.

The featured role of the rebellious and charismatic St Jimmy will be shared by Chris Cheney, guitarist and lead vocalist of The Living End, and Phil Jamieson, frontman of alternative rockers Grinspoon.

A line-up of talented musical theatre performers will also join the cast, including Ben Bennett, Cameron MacDonald, Alex Jeans, Phoebe Panaretos, Rowena Vilar and Ashleigh Barlow.

They’ll team up to melt the walls of QPAC’s Playhouse when the Tony and Grammy Award-winning rock musical opens in just over a month’s time.

Set in a post-9/11 world, American Idiot feels more relevant than ever in the age of President Donald Trump. The show features every song from Green Day’s iconic album, American Idiot, as well as several songs from their follow-up release, 21st Century Breakdown.

Nick Skubij, artistic director of shake & stir theatre co, says he is thrilled with the cast that’s been assembled for the show’s Australian premiere.

“We had over 600 people from across the nation audition for parts and believe we have on board a collection of the most authentic and talented performers,” he says.

“Who better to portray this electric story than actual rock stars themselves? We are stoked to have two iconic Australian band frontmen, Chris Cheney and Phil Jamieson, along with a hugely talented group of young musical theatre stars and an acclaimed creative team.”

Green Day’s American Idiot will play QPAC’s Playhouse from 23 February. Tickets are on sale now at
