After captivating audiences at their sold-out Queensland Cabaret Festival 2015 performance, Australian French-language duo Baby et Lulu, aka Abby Dobson (Leonardo’s Bride) and Lara Goodridge (FourPlay), are returning to Brisbane Powerhouse on Thursday 28 July.

Under the playful guise of alter-egos Baby (Dobson) and Lulu (Goodridge), the pair will perform a wide range of the French songbook including hits by French icons Edith Piaf, Camille,
Serge Gainsbourg, Brigitte Bardot, as well as original French compositions.

Audiences can also anticipate a French language rendition of the platinum-selling, Even When I’m Sleeping, originally sung by Dobson herself in Leonardo’s Bride.

According to Abby their success is partly due to Australian’s love of French culture.

“People just keep coming back and they bring their friends and they bring more friends next time,” she says.

“It seems people really love it. Who knew there were so many Francophiles in Australia?”

Stepping into their sassy characters, Baby and Lulu, allows the duo to fully explore their love affair with French culture.

“We dress up. And fortunately I’ve been buying vintage dresses from the ’50s since forever, so I’ve got quite a collection. And Lara does now too. It’s very girlie and kind of coquettish, but very playful as well. We don’t take ourselves too seriously,” Abby says.

After forming in 2012, Baby et Lulu have since been nominated for an ARIA for their Album Deux and have played countless sold-out shows around the country.

Produced by Tony Buchen (Tim Finn, Bob Evans, Dereb The Ambassador, Megan Washington) Album Deux features the prodigiously talented Baby et Lulu live band, boasting some of
Sydney’s finest musicians in Matt Ottignon (flute, sax, clarinet), Julian Curwin (classical guitar), Marcello Maio (piano, accordion), Mark Harris (double bass), and Hamish Stuart (drums).

The pair have been touring the east coast over the past year performing at venues and festivals including Melbourne Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Blue Mountains Music Festival, WOMADelaide and The Capital Jazz Project at The Street Theatre in Canberra.
