Love is in the air this weekend, with Valentine’s Day, followed by The Vintage & Handmade Wedding Fair on Saturday 15 February. Organiser Melanie Weijers tells bmag what soon-to-be-weds can expect to find at the fair.

Please tell bmag a little about the Vintage & Handmade Wedding fair:

The Vintage & Handmade Wedding Fair is produced by the team behind Australia’s first vintage wedding magazine, Vintage Bride, which showcases 40 creative wedding professionals from Brisbane and SE QLD.

The event runs for one day only, Saturday 15th February from 10am to 3pm, in the historic Tote Room at the Eagle Farm Racecourse.

Unlike generic wedding expos, our vendors present to couples a wedding wonderland of inspiration and professional advice for those who are seeking a truly personal and unique wedding day.

What sort of stalls can attendees expect to find?

We feature everything from vintage furniture hire, to tea length dresses, quirky photographers and cute paige boy outfits. We have curated a selection of vendors to suit those who are planning a wedding day that is a true reflection of their own personalities.

What styles of weddings will the fair cover?

Vintage to us is not just mismatched chairs and doilies, it is so much more than this as we love to showcase styles from the glamorous 20’s to mod 60’s and everything in between.

Not all couples are looking for a full blown vintage or retro affair, but the vast majority of couples these days are at the very least incorporating one or two vintage inspired elements into their day, whether they realise it or not!

What’s your message to soon-to-be-weds planning a wedding?

Mark Saturday 15th February in your diary and round up your fiancé or mum & girlfriends and come and meet our lovely wedding vendors.  We are here to cut down your run-around time and share with you a vast array of advice and inspiration all under the one roof.

We strongly believe that you shouldn’t feel forced to have a wedding like everyone else’s just because “that’s what you should do.” Instead, sit down with your partner and work out who you are, what you as a couple really represent and let that shine through on our special day together.  If for you a casual picnic afternoon tea with plenty of Pimms and lots of laughs is your thing, then do it!  If a private dining room with impeccable food and a select group of family and friends reflects your style then go for it.  The fabulous thing about wedding today is there really are no rules!

We are very excited to be showcasing live swing dance demonstrations by Empire Swing on the hour at 11am, 12pm and 1pm and also the sweet sound of Elska on her harp on the half hour throughout the day.

Ticket sales for The Vintage & Handmade Wedding Fair will be $15 at the door, or $10 if purchased prior. More information in our event guide.
