The 2016 Hinterland Sports Festival promises a weekend jam-packed with action and entertainment for all ages and fitness levels on spectacular Tamborine Mountain from Friday, November 18 to Sunday, November 20.
With more than 10 individual cycling, running and walking events, the festival – previously known as Tour de Tamborine – challenges participants to ‘conquer the mountain’.
The festival atmosphere will be brought to life with an entertainment schedule including local musicians, aerial BMX stuntman and an array of kids’ activities, as well as a unique Ride-In Outdoor Movie Night on Saturday.
Now in its 14th year, the three-day festival has expanded from its original cycling focus to embrace a broader array of endurance events and entertainment offerings, providing something for everyone – families, kids, professional athletes, fitness enthusiasts, weekend warriors and everything in between.
Cyclists can tackle the 90km Tour de Tamborine Cycle Classic, 50km Scenic Rim Sportive or the shorter 20km Mountain Top Block Ride amid the stunning mountain scenery.
If you prefer trainers to tyres, you can hit the pavement in the Hinterland Half Marathon, 10km Mountain Run or the 5km Summit Run.
Taking advantage of the lush mountain surrounds and acknowledging the rising popularity of trail running, organisers have included two trail events, 8.5km or 15km, weaving through the Tamborine National Park.
Those who wish to conquer the mountain at a more leisurely pace have the choice of 5km or 10km walks, while the kids can also join the fun with the 1km Fondo cycle event or the 1km Junior Bolt running race.
Encouraging participants to make a weekend of it on the mountain, the festival’s event and entertainment programs will be spread over the three days and will be staged at the Tamborine Mountain Sports Centre on Long Road.
There will be an opening night celebration and bib collection from 6.30pm – 8pm Friday 18 November at Clancy’s Irish Bar & Restaurant (2 Main St, Mt Tamborine).
Saturday’s events kick off from 5.30am and the day ends with entertainment running until 9pm
Sunday’s events begin at 5am with all races ending by 11am.
Sponsored by Gold Coast Skoda, the Hinterland Sports Festival is offering early bird entry prices for those who register by October 26.
A portion of the festival’s proceeds will benefit the QPS Student Defensive Driving Program.
