CALLING ALL LOVERS OF WEST AFRICAN DRUMMING AND DANCING!!!
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to come together in a friendly and supportive environment to have fun and learn drumming and/or dancing from two Ghanaian masters of these traditional arts!
Your Teachers at these fun and instructive workshops will be:
ALFRED NII TETTEY TETTEH (AGO)
Ghanaian born Ago lives by his motto: “MUSIC IS SOUL FOOD. LETS ENJOY THE MUSIC AND FEEL HAPPY.” and this is evident whenever he performs or teaches – both of which he does with gusto, skill and passion. A master drummer and percussionist adept on Djembe, Kpanlogo, Gome, Xylophone, Asalato, Flute, and various talking drums, Ago takes pleasure in sharing insights into his culture and teaching the traditional rhythms handed down to him by the elder masters in his community. He has held the position of lead drummer in several cultural groups in Ghana, toured Australia extensively over the last eight years with Wala, and is highly sought after as a performer and teacher in Ghana, Hong Kong and Australia.
NII KPAKPO ADDO
A well-known and well-loved master dancer, dance director, master drummer and multi-instrumentalist from Ghana, West Africa, Nii Kpakpo is now based in Melbourne, Australia. With 19 years’ experience in dancing in both traditional and mainstream styles, his extensive résumé includes performing and teaching with a number of dance companies in Ghana – where he was director of, and lead performer in, his own dance company, The Mumo Kome Dance Ensemble – and in the U.S.A, Israel and Sweden. A dynamic performer and caring teacher, he enjoys sharing his skills and culture with his audiences and students.
Ago and Nii Kpakpo will be presenting four one hour workshops with a different rhythm being taught in each drumming session and a different dance being taught in each dance session.
All levels from beginner to experienced will be welcomed and you are welcome to attend as many sessions as you like on the day.
Drumming students will have the option to hone their skills by playing, with Ago, for the dancers during their lessons.
