Bayside Music By The Sea presents Towards Elysium ‘String Quartet – An AIDS Activist’s Memoir in Music’ by Lyle Chan on Saturday 5 July, starting at 7:30pm, at the iconic 102-year-old Sandgate Town Hall.

Performed by highly acclaimed Acacia Quartet, this tour-de-force of emotionally powerful classical music will appeal to a wide audience with the capacity to bring tears, and also uplift with influences of jazz and rock and roll.

Composed as a memoir of when Chan was an activist running the ‘Buyers Club’, and bringing in underground drugs from the USA, the work contains reflections of historic events, portraits of activist friends, and unusual effects like the use of police whistles to recall street demonstrations.

Red Violin composer John Corigliano, winner of Oscar, Pulitzer, Grammy Awards has applauded the work, now out on iTunes, with a double CD release mid July.
