If you’re after a new look for the new year, try thrifting your 2017 wardrobe on Brisbane’s northside. Hannah Klose has done all the legwork for you, finding the top ten op shops for sourcing your secondhand style.
Neighbours Aid Lawnton
Address: 9/690 Gympie Rd, Lawnton
Trading hours: Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:00pm and Saturday 9:00am -4:00pm
It’s over half an hour from the CBD, but it’s definitely worth going the extra mile for a trifecta of thrifting in Lawnton with three op shops side by side. Start with Neighbours Aid as there’s a very high chance you’ll get change from a fiver… most garments start at just $3, not to mention the $1 racks out front! Shirts and skirts start at $3, shoes at $4 and there’s a huge range of dresses ranging from $5-$8. You’ll also find denim for days with a massive rack of jeans going for $4 a pair.
This megastore houses a huge range of handbags, clutches, cute vintage garments and labels like Wayne Cooper, Sportscraft, J Crew, Wittner, Portmans, Witchery, Atmos&here and Cue, so you’d be crazy not to pop in.
Neighbours Aid often hosts 15% off sales and offers a loyalty program, so every time you spend $10 or more you receive a stamp, and once you’ve collected five stamps you’ll receive an $8 credit to spend in store!

You can never have too many shoes and if you’re nodding your head right now, you need to head to Salvos in Lawnton! They have an amazing range of footwear from casual to corporate, and vintage to luxe without the hefty price tag…most pairs go for between $5-$15.
Their garments generally range in price from $4.50-$8, and you’ll find loads of labels like Portmans, Sportsgirl, French Connection, Staple the Label, Forever New, Ladakh and ASOS, some still brand new with tags!
Handbags start at $5 and there’s also a $2 clearance rack if you’re feeling lucky!

You could spend hours in this store and not just because of the racks and racks of great garments… the aircon is amazing!
Everything is colour coded including the shoes, making it easier to navigate to your preferred colour palette!
The store stocks everything from band tees to bridal wear, and if you love labels like Kookai, Bardot, sass & bide, Saba, Top Shop, Country Road and Calvin Klein, you’ll be in secondhand heaven.
Garments and shoes start at $5-$6, so what are you waiting for?!
The Change Room
Address: 65 Gilston St, Keperra
Trading hours: Monday – Friday 9:00am – 4:30pm and Saturday 9:00am – 12:00pm
It’s not often you get something for nothing, but at the Change Room in Keperra they sometimes have baskets of free garments out the front, so you can get retail therapy without even spending a cent!
For those wanting to splash some cash they usually have a $1 sale rack too, and their regular prices for garments, accessories and shoes range from $2-$15.
But it’s not just the brands such as Nicola Finetti, Toni Bianco, Wittner and Witchery, that will keep you coming back. All the funds raised go towards helping to build brighter futures for at-risk young people in the community.
So while you’re using their change room, you’ll also be bringing change to those who need it!

This cute little op shop is crammed with goodness…from the garments, to the bric a brac, to the shoes, to the lovely team of volunteers, it really is a treat to visit. On Fridays they also have a cafe out the back to bring the community together. A lot of elderly people and people with carers come and it’s their big day out for the week!
Zion Bargain Centre, Nundah
Address: 16 Union Street, Nundah
Trading hours: Monday – Friday 9am – 1:30pm & Saturday 9am-11:30am
You know an opshop is going to be a goldmine when it’s tucked away on a side street in an obscure location. I’ve snapped up everything from killer vintage pieces, to Zimmerman and Josh Goot. And don’t even get me started on their price range…all garments are under $10 and most days they seem to be having a half price sale! So. freaking. good!
They also have red spot specials for $1, blue spot specials for 50 cents each or 4 for for $1, and a bargain bin you can rummage to fill a bag for $2!
St Paul’s Opshop, Ashgrove
Address: Corner Waterworks and Jubilee Road, Ashgrove
Trading hours: 9am-1pm Wednesdays and Saturdays
With only two days each week to tap this thrift store, you really do need to make a special plan to pop in but it’s so worth it!
They stock a lot of designer clothes from Witchery, Bettina Liano, Veronika Maine and I even found some legit Ray Ban sunglasses for $3, but it’s the staff that really make it. They are just so lovely you could almost eat them up!
Did I mention the 3 garments for $2 rack out the front? Enough said!
Save the Children Chermside
Address: 755 Gympie Rd, Chermside
Trading hours: Monday – Friday 9am – 4:30pm and Saturday 9am – 4pm
A few doors down from one of the biggest shopping centres in Brisbane, Save the Children in Chermside stocks most of the labels you know and love for a fraction of the cost! From Bardot, Bonds, Bettina Liano and Ben Sherman, to Country Road, Witchery and White Suede, you’ll find the cream of the opshop crop going for between $5-7. They also stock plenty of fancy footwear from Nine West to Stuart Weitzman ranging in price from $5 – $19.
And if those kind of bargains aren’t enough to get you running to the store, Save the Children Chermside also hosts 50% off sales when they have too much stock, so it pays to pop in on the regular!

Trading hours: Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
If you need an outfit for a special event, the team at Salvos Alderley have made it super easy, dedicating one side of the shop to the finer things. Think labels like ASOS, Keepsake the Label, Veronika Maine, Ladakh, Country Road, Mink Pink and Sportsgirl all in mint condition, or even brand new with tags! There’s also a selection of evening dresses and bridal wear starting at $25.
On the other side of the store you’ll find racks upon racks of everyday wear going for as little as $3, not to mention the $2 clearance rack…can I get a witness?!
If you’re looking to bag a bargain on the accessories front there’s also a wide selection of handbags, with leather satchels going for as little as $10. You can also put your best foot forward thanks to the Salvos, with shoes by the likes of Wittner and Coach walking out the door for $5-$40.
Red Cross Alderley
Address: 47 South Pine Road, Alderley

This Red Cross really is a one stop shop, stocking everything from costumes, evening dresses and a plus size range, to bridal wear and maternity garments! If you love a good bargain rack they also have plenty of those, from a $2.50 clearance rack, to $3 and $5 racks, so pick your price point and start perusing!
Secondhand certainly doesn’t mean second best in this op shop with brands such as Ben Sherman, ASOS, Glassons, Saba, Bardot, Cue, Decjuba, Sportsgirl and Country Road on offer. They also stock quality footwear by labels like Urban Soul and Natsui for as little as $5-$10!
