It has been a big year for Madeline Stuart, but the best is yet to come.
Bmag cover girl Madeline Stuart is one step closer to world domination as she prepares to walk the world’s most fashionable runway.
The Brisbane based model has announced she will walk in New York Fashion Week for American label FTL Moda, in association with the Christopher Reeve Foundation, on Sunday 13 September.
Madeline, who has amassed nearly 450,000 fans on Facebook and 60,000 followers on Instagram will also front two new campaigns. She is the face of accessories brand EverMaya, which has also introduced a line of handbags named after her (five percent of the sales will go to the National Down’s Syndrome Society) while Activewear line Manifesta has also signed a contract with Madeline.
The 18-year-old, who has Down syndrome and other health problems (including three holes in her heart and a loose valve, all of which she manages with heart medication), set her sights on a modelling career and has been following her dream with single-minded determination.
“I never mentioned modelling to Madeline, because it was nothing that ever even crossed my mind,” Madeline’s mother, Rosanne Stuart, told Bmag. “But we were at the Ekka last year and we were at the Cotton Parade, and she told me she wanted to be a model. She told me she wanted to get up on the stage and model, then and there. And I said to her, ‘Well, honey, you’re going to have to get a lot fitter if you want to be a model’, and that’s where it all started.
“The thing is, we were already on a fitness kick. She was struggling to keep up with dance and a few other things, so she already knew she needed to get fit. It didn’t mean anything to her that she had to do it for another reason as well.”
Stuart will be the second model with the condition to take to the fashion week catwalk, following in the footsteps of American Horror Story actress, Jamie Brewer, who strutted in New York Fashion Week for Carrie Hammer in February.
