As winter racing carnival approaches and outfit planning begins, the Emporium Hotel is set to present millinery collections from The hat Box in a high tea event on April 2.

The Hat Box winter collection will be presented as part of the Emporium Hotel fashion high tea series and include headpieces hand picked by racing fashion identity and Hat Box owner Dale Olsson.

“This winter we will be seeing headpieces in leather, lace, metallics and printed fabrics as well as felt,” says Dale.

“We are constantly in tune with the latest styles here and in Europe and North America, and we can share that the standout headpiece colour for this season is red. Other popular shades include tangerine, orchid, turquoise and the perennial black which never goes out of fashion.

“Winter 2014 will see a lot of bright colour to lift any grey days at the races. It’s an exciting season ahead.

“I feel honoured to have The Hat Box chosen to follow in the steps of George Gross and Harry Who who showcased their collections twice a year at the Fashion High Teas at the  Emporium Hotel.

“The hotel lounge is such a beautiful and elegant venue and I am looking forward to presenting my milliners’ fabulous winter ranges there to the ladies of Brisbane.”

Milliners on show will include Patricia Balmer, Ann Boyle, Kim Fletcher, Neil Grigg, Kylie Heagney, Jonathan Howard and the famed Melbourne-based Phillip Rhodes.

Looking ahead to winter carnival, Dale says she has plenty of occasions lined up to organise her own ensembles for.

“I have booked tables in the Peacock Lane Fashion Marquee for both Oaks Day and Stradbroke Day and also I have a table for the High Tea in the Fashion Marquee.

“I am naturally looking forward to all three events as I love hats and fashion and so I booked and paid early to have a ringside seat for the Fashions on the Field. It’s wonderful to see women from all over Australia wearing their finest racewear and vying for the prizes.

“Last year, when I entered Fashions on the Field on Oaks Day, it was the first time I had entered in Brisbane for many years and I was absolutely stoked to have been chosen runner-up. However, I’m not planning a repeat performance this year – I just want to relax and watch!”

“Another Carnival event I am looking forward to is the Oaks Ball. It was great fun last year and the new venue at the Victoria Park Marquee is excellent. I have been to other events there and it’s a lovely location.”
