For nearly three decades, Ian Harrison has dressed supreme-court judges, high-rolling horse racing identities, champion sportsman and boasts an international clientele that makes him the envy of menswear stores across Australia.
However, as they say in the classics, all good things come to an end and acclaimed menswear icon Ian Harrison is soon planning to sell the self-titled Ascot business he opened in 1986.
But with the internationally acclaimed spring racing carnival on the doorstep, Mr Harrison is going out with a bang and Harrisons Menswear store is full of handpicked European menswear that will make the wearer the talk of the track.
Mr Harrison recently returned from his annual pilgrimage to France and Italy to inspect the latest fashion trends and he returned with a range of stock made by labels exclusively available at his store.
“This season it’s all about colour, bright colours that stand out,” he said.
“Shirts in bright blues and yellows under beautiful suits for a day at the track are the look.
“Traditional race days like Derby Day and Oaks Day never date but this season is about standing out in the crowd.”
Fashion tips aside, Mr Harrison said it would be sad day when he decided to sell his beloved business, but said he was looking forward to a new challenge.
“I started it 27 years ago in November and it’s still a wonderful business to this very day,” he said.
“I love fashion and high quality menswear and the opportunity to change the way men dressed in this city has been marvelous.
“What this shop did prove to me was that if you provide high-quality menswear, the clientele is there and they will pay for it.
“I have some marvelously loyal clients over the years, all of the racing crowd, the legal fraternity and Pat Rafter.
“I also have a list of international clients who have been with me for years.
“I know their measurements and what they like to wear and I send the clothes and suits that I think they will like throughout the year.”
