The travel gurus at Lonely Planet have revealed their hot tips for 2017.

Canada, Choquequirao and Bordeaux are among the “must see” destinations you need to visit in 2017, according to Lonely Planet‘s latest Best in Travel guide.

The annual list reveals Lonely Planet‘s picks for the top countries, regions and cities to visit in the next year, based on prevailing travel trends.

Canada was named 2017’s must-visit country, based on the “wave of positivity” generated by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as well as a weak Canadian dollar pushing down prices.

Choquequirao, hidden in Peru’s Apurimac Valley, was named the top region to visit in 2017, because of a new cable car that’s set to begin operating in 2017 and will take up to 3,000 visitors a day to the ruins of the last Inca refuge from the conquistadors.

Lonely Planet expects Bordeaux in France to be the world’s hottest city in 2017, based on a new high-speed train line that will make Bordeaux easier to get to from Paris, and the recent opening of tourism hotspot La Cité du Vin — the Disneyland of wine.

South Australia, ranked as the fifth hottest destination to visit in 2017, is a surprise inclusion on the list. Lonely Planet singled out SA for its “mix of brilliant wine country, abundant produce festivals, stark and stunning tracts of picturesque Aussie outback and crowd-free beaches that could make even the Bahamas jealous”, and because the Queen Mary 2 is adding South Australia to its route in 2017.

Rather conspicuous by its absence is Japan, after Tokyo and Kyoto were recently named the two best cities in the world by Conde Nast Traveler.
