Wondering what to do on a sunny day in Queensland? Beach too crowded, just like the cinemas? Head to a theme park instead!

Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World and Wet’n’Wild Water World are ramping up for summer holidays with new attractions to thrill and entertain the holiday crowds. Over $20 million has been invested to spruce them up for summer visitors.

Australia’s first combination water flume boat ride and roller coaster in one, Storm Coaster, is now open at Sea World with incredible wow factor. Riders encounter the effects of a cataclysmic storm and reach speeds of up to 70 kph while feeling the force of 3G’s.

“Those who have already experienced Storm Coaster are saying it is a world class theme park experience,” says Village Roadshow Theme Parks spokesperson, Darrin Davies. “Not only that, but it is world-leading with its incredible internal flooded room measuring over half an acre creating an amazing underwater section. You won’t see anything like this anywhere else in the world.”

And if fast rides aren’t your particular thrill, there’s excitement of another sort. Sea World Cruises has launched the new Nature Day Cruise which journeys to South Stradbroke Island and the newly re-opened Couran Cove Resort – perfect for nature-lovers or those just wanting to experience the raw beauty of Stradbroke, and there’s also a particularly adorable new addition to the wildlife in the park: a baby polar bear.

“Christmas holidays will be a special time at Sea World with Henry the baby polar bear getting ready to experience his first Christmas at Polar Bear Shore ‘Polar Pre-School’,” says Davies. “Henry has been such a hit with everyone as he goes about his playful and inquisitive day exploring everything there is to see and do and providing a spectacle for all who see him.”

Warner Bros. Movie World is in the middle of its annual White Christmas events, when it transforms into a magical winter wonderland including the largest light display in Australia with over one million twinkling lights of all colours, shapes and sizes. Meet Santa and all his special little helpers in Christmas Village and enjoy a Christmas Parade extravaganza in the most magical event of the year.

“This event has become so popular this year we had to add five new nights including our first ever White Christmas evening after Christmas itself on December 27,” says Davies. “The joy these nights provide has led to an extension of the festive season itself here at Australia’s favourite theme park and we are overjoyed to be able to make it happen and enrich people’s lives at this special time.”

Meanwhile, the games are beginning at Wet’n’Wild – ‘Summer Games’ has turned the water park into a giant game board. Those that have the most fun win prizes and the glory of sharing their success on social media.

Country-types won’t miss out either – Australian Outback Spectacular’s “Bush Christmas” is back again this year, injecting a festive atmosphere into “The Spirit of the Horse” performances. Until the 28 December the show will transform for the season with carols around the campfire and a delicious three-course Christmas feast including a delicious plum pudding for dessert. Santa will even make a special appearance in a Cobb & Co Coach overflowing with presents!

“With this summer expected to be a sizzler, we expect holiday-makers to be out in force enjoying the best rides and experiences available,” says Davies.
