The Jam Pantry is a cafe in Greenslopes that serves up delicious seasonal dishes and tasty coffees and sells a specialty range of jams, chutneys and relishes that are all handmade on site.
Always bustlingly busy, The Jam Pantry is filled with people who have travelled far and wide to sample the wares of owner Naomi ‘Nims’ Zavackas and her famous preserves.
After selling her previous cafe Comfort At The Table (an outrageously popular cafe over in Milton), Nim’s plan was to focus on food writing and making her signature line of jams, relishes and chutneys. But one thing led to another and The Jam Pantry was born. Open a mere seven weeks already the word has spread, and her old regulars plus a whole host of new foodies, have flocked to the cafe.
Bright and breezy with pale wooden floor boards, white finishings, quirky artworks and a feature wall covered in floral wallpaper, The Jam Pantry feels just like being your own kitchen except bigger, more stylish and you’re eating dishes far superior to your own concoctions (we presume).
Open six days a week currently, The Jam Pantry’s seasonal menu changes every 20 serves so be aware that what you ate last week may not be available the next time you wander in. While this could be distressing news for some, it does invite you to constantly sample new flavours and combinations knowing that each dish is utilising the freshest ingredients which are locally grown.
For those that love certainty, there is a standard menu that is always available with well-loved favourites including the iconic dish Nim’s Eggs, a speciality that involves eggs, streaky bacon, roma tomatoes and banana chutney. Seriously addictive and one that has proven popular, even causing a mini riot online when Nim considered removing it from the menu. And after seeing the divine-looking dishes flying out of the frantic kitchen, it’s easy to see why Nim has such dedicated and loyal foodie fans that have followed her from her previous establishment.
If you want to avoid a wait, come early. Or if you have a group of 5 or more, they do take bookings. Currently serving breakfast and lunch, you can choose from the seasonal selection on the blackboard or pick a plate from the standard menu. There is also a cakes cabinet stocked with Leavain Bakery goodies including the best mini carrot cakes in the world. Your latte will use beans from Coffee Supreme and if you order a hot chocolate or mocha, you will experience a decadent, real chocolate experience.
