Veresdale began as a cotton plantation (Townsvale) owned by Robert Towns. Towns was a Sydney businessman with interests in shipping, island trading and stations in northern Australia. Towns initially used the Logan River for cotton transport, building a wharf and store at Logan Village, and traveled overland for the remainder of the journey.
