About Strathpine

Get directions

Strathpine is 20 km north of Brisbane. Once indistinguishable from the surrounding Bald Hills and South Pine areas, it was effectively created in 1887 when the Railways Department sought a distinctive name for the area’s railway station to be brought into service the following year. According to a Queensland Railway publication, the name means between the pines and is derived from the Gaelic word ‘strath’, meaning valley. The area’s population boomed in the 1940s with the establishment American and Australian military camps, and again in the 1960s when Brisbane’s rapidly growing population expanded into the area.
