Valentine’s Day – commemorative of the Roman saint who has been associated with courtly love since the Middle Ages – is a day to celebrate everything love-related, or so we’re told.

However it’s not a holiday everyone’s happy about: 45 per cent of our poll respondents said they thought Valentine’s Day was a Hallmark-holiday that we should simply forget about celebrating.

Bunches of roses, heart-shaped chocolates and soppy cards aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and they can weigh especially heavy on the shoulders of singles: 25 per cent of respondents were single and not doing anything particularly special to celebrate.
