You didn’t ask for it, but The Rock’s take on Jumanji is here anyway, and it actually looks pretty good.

Twenty-two years (!) after the release of the original Robin Williams film, Jumanji is back — but this time, it’s a video game, not a board game.

The trailer starts off very much like The Breakfast Club, with four teenagers thrown into detention with each other.

When the principal makes them clean out the school basement, they find an old video game called, you guessed it, Jumanji.

They get sucked into the world of the game, and into the bodies of the game’s characters — Dr Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson), Franklin Finbar (Kevin Hart), Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black) and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan).

The trailer is actually a lot of fun, as the kids have to learn how to use the strengths and abilities of their new bodies, making fun of the clichés and conventions of video games in the process.

We’re sold on the cast, too — we know Johnson and Hart have great chemistry, Jack Black is fun in small doses, and it’s always good to see ex-Doctor Who star Karen Gillan pop up in a film.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hits Australian cinemas on Boxing Day.
