Jackie Chan is back with his own spin on the Taken formula.

We’re used to seeing the 63-year-old star in action-comedies, but he’s not messing around in this new film from director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Goldeneye).

The deadly-serious action flick will star Chan as a businessman whose daughter is killed in a terrorist attack. When he asks a British government official (played by Pierce Brosnan) for help identifying the terrorists, he realises that Brosnan’s character may have been in on it, and all hell breaks loose.

Jackie Chan in a dramatic role? Martin Campbell making a comeback after 2011’s disastrous Green Lantern? Jackie Chan versus Pierce Brosnan?

We are on board.

The Foreigner hits US cinemas on October 13; we’re eagerly awaiting news of an Australian release date.
