Well, here’s something you don’t see every day.
Actor and all-around legend Michael J Fox joined Coldplay on stage on the weekend to perform two tracks from the Back to the Future soundtrack, because, I mean, why not?
In a video projection during the band’s show in New Jersey, frontman Chris Martin’s son Moses asked his dad to play something from “both of our favourite movie, Back to the Future” (never let it be said that the Martins don’t have good taste in movies).
The band complied, playing the Penguins’ doo-wop classic Earth Angel, which is played during the Under The Sea dance in the film. Midway through the song, Michael J Fox himself walked out on stage and played a brief guitar solo.
Fox hung around for the next track, a cover of Chuck Berry’s classic Johnny B Goode, looking awfully comfortable with a guitar in his hands and putting us lesser mortals to shame.
“That’s our dream come true,” Martin said afterwards. “Thank you, Michael. What a wonderful, wonderful man.”
Coldplay will return to Brisbane later this year, playing Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday 6 December. Unfortunately, we suspect Michael J Fox won’t be with them.
