It looks like something out of a science-fiction movie, but this is real life — this injured sea turtle is the latest animal to benefit from 3D printing technology.

The turtle was found, almost lifeless, by Turkish animal rescuers after a boat propeller shaved off part of its snout. The turtle’s rescuers then got in touch with 3D printing company BTech Innovation, which took the turtle’s CT scans and created an awesome titanium beak that fits perfectly.

The surgery — the first of its kind — took two-and-a-half hours to perform.

Engadget reports the turtle is still in recovery, but as you can see in the video, he’s doing fine. Once he recovers, and if the prosthetic is not rejected, he’ll be released back into the ocean, where he will no doubt become the undisputed king of the sea.
