Spoiler alert! Has Taylor Swift won the Triple J Hottest 100?
Well, ‘won’ might be a bit far-fetched, but according to early reports she has definitely earned a spot on the coveted music countdown list.
Social Hottest 100, a Twitter account which has only sprung up in the last few days, claim they have collated 20,000 votes – that’s 2000 voters, each with 10 votes – in order to formulate their Hottest 100. The results have been tweeted from the account, from 100 to 1. Social Hottest 100 have said their data has mostly been gathered from Twitter and Instagram, using the #hottest100 hashtag.
The interest in Taylor Swift’s addition to the Australia Day music countdown follows the launch of the #Tay4Hottest100 campaign,a movement which saw her devoted fan base attempt to get her pop anthem Shake It Off to the top of the Hottest 100 list.
Shake It Off will now come in at 75th place, according to the Social Hottest 100, which is of course much lower than her dedicated army of fans were hoping for. However, Social Hottest 100 have admitted that their results have been taken exclusively from social media sites. So there is still hope that Swift may end up climbing a little higher up the ladder.
Before you get too excited about Swift’s triumph, however, there is still one more speed bump left to navigate in this ongoing saga. KFC have recently endorsed Swift for countdown, leading to speculation that she may be disqualified as Triple J’s rules state that the station “reserves the right to remove artists from the list who have benefited from competitions or commercial campaigns that incentivise fans to vote for them”. So far, Triple J has yet to comment.
Bookies still have Canberra duo Peking Duk down to take out the top spot, with their song High.
