Brisbane daily The Courier-Mail has taken out the PANPA Newspaper of the Year Award.
Queensland’s Courier-Mail has been named newspaper of the year at a prestigious industry awards night.
The Brisbane masthead took the top gong for national or metropolitan dailies at the annual PANPA awards, announced by industry body The Newspaper Works in Sydney on Thursday.
Another News Corp Australia publication, The Weekend Australian, was named weekend newspaper of the year.
Fairfax Media’s Newcastle Herald was named daily newspaper of the year in the regional category, while The Gympie Times was honoured in the daily community newspaper category.
Bush bible The Land took the non-daily newspaper of the year award, while the Sydney suburban title St George & Sutherland Shire Leader was named non-daily newspaper of the year at the community level.
The PANPAs recognise excellence in photography, advertising, marketing, environment and print and production in newspapers from across the Asia-Pacific region.
“We have some of the best newspapers in the world and the Newspaper of the Year awards continue to attract great support despite the increasing commercial pressures on the industry and, therefore, newspaper colleagues,” Newspaper Works CEO Mark Hollands said.
“I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to enter, and in doing so, contributed to the sense of community of our industry.”
