A man, 43, is believed to be in critical condition after suffering serious head injuries in a seemingly random attack in central Queensland.
A man has suffered severe head injuries in a seemingly random attack in central Queensland.
Police say the 43-year-old was walking with a woman along the Fitzroy Bridge in Rockhampton about 3.15am (AEST) on Saturday, when he was allegedly pushed to the ground and assaulted to the point of unconsciousness by another man.
He was taken to Rockhampton Hospital with serious head injuries and is believed to be in a critical condition.
The alleged attacker ran off and was later found by police.
It’s unclear what sparked the altercation but police say there are no indications the men knew each other.
The woman, 40, wasn’t injured.
A man, 24, has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Saturday.
