Ladder leaders Brisbane Roar are reeling after star striker Besart Berisha was ruled out for three weeks with a hip complaint.
A-League leaders Brisbane Roar are reeling after losing star striker Besart Berisha for three weeks with a hip complaint.
Roar coach Mike Mulvey revealed the Albanian international had been nursing the injury for several weeks but medical staff advised him that he must rest or risk long term consequences.
“Medical advice is if we continue with him – and we could – but if he gets the wrong knock on it or stretches it he could be out for seven or eight weeks,” he said.
“He’s just picked it up in an innocuous way, we don’t even know how he got it.
“But he has been nursing it through.
“It’s not one that you can have an injection and play. Medical advice is that he rests.”
Mulvey admitted Berisha had been “touch and go” for the last several rounds.
“He had MRIs yesterday, it shows a little tear,” he said.
“He’s been carrying it for three weeks.
“He has played in a lot of pain. It has just caught up with him.”
Mulvey said it was not related to the hamstring complaint that sidelined Berisha for a month earlier this season.
It is a huge blow for Brisbane as they look to bounce back from last round’s shock 2-0 home loss to Newcastle Jets when they line up against fifth placed Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium on Thursday night.
