BIGSOUND Festival, Fortitude Valley’s annual music industry conference, has unveiled its first round of high-profile attendees and speakers.

Keynote speeches from Australian music legends Archie Roach and Tina Arena headline 2017’s first announcement for BIGSOUND Festival, the southern hemisphere’s biggest celebration of new music.

BIGSOUND programmer Maggie Collins says Roach and Arena have made major contributions to Australia’s cultural identity.

“I know they have a lot to say, and I absolutely can’t wait to hear it,” Collins says.

“I’m also so excited to finally reveal just a glimpse of the many exciting, hungry, and passionate people that are chomping at the bit to come out to BIGSOUND. They’re gagging to discover their next favourite Australian band, and work with them around the world.”

Quentin Tarantino’s music supervisor Mary Ramos will be one of the US tastemakers heading to BIGSOUND 2017. Ramos is responsible for some of cinema’s most iconic soundtracks, including Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Jackie Brown.

Sub Pop’s Stuart Meyer, Domino’s Peter Berard, ATC Live’s Isla Angus, D Music Marketing’s Adel Hattem will be among the high-profile label representatives and publicists headed to Brisbane for the festival.

The Worldwide Independent Network’s Alison Wenham will provide a mini-keynote on the state of the global independent sector.

A panel of international delegates will be awarding the inaugural Levi’s Music Prize, a $100,000 annual prize pool up for grabs to help BIGSOUND alumni take the next steps in their career. Applications for artists wanting to play in front of the international delegates and be eligible for the prize are open until 22 May at

There will be a number of new additions to this year’s conference, including a Music Tech Showcase that will give Australian music tech companies a chance to showcase products at the prototype stage.

“Technology is arguably the biggest influence over today’s music industry, so it’s fitting that BIGSOUND becomes more inclusive of the tech sector,” says QMusic executive officer Joel Edmondson.

“The new Music Tech Showcase is something we hope establishes itself over time as being as valuable to the tech sector as BIGSOUND’s artist performance opportunities are for emerging musical talent.”

BIGSOUND will be held across multiple locations in Fortitude Valley from Tuesday 5 September to Friday 8 September. For more info, visit
