If you thought the ratings triumph of Channel 7’s Cats Make You Laugh Out Loud last week was a cultural nadir, this won’t help.
Cats Make You Laugh Out Loud pulled in 917,000 metro viewers last week, which seemed awfully impressive for a show that consisted of literally nothing but YouTube videos with narration — but now the network has found an even bigger ratings phenomenon.
Dogs Make You Laugh Out Loud aired at 7:30pm last night, right in primetime, and promptly pulled in over one million viewers.
In metro areas, 1,039,000 people tuned in to watch videos that have long been available on the internet, making it the number one most watched show in the country, even beating the news programs. Combined with regional viewers, we’re looking at a staggering 1,716,000 viewers for Channel 7’s YouTube playlist.
Remember the days when Channel Nine’s The Hotplate was trouncing Channel 7’s Restaurant Revolution in this timeslot? Nope. Neither do we.
I, for one, welcome our new canine overlords.
Of course, Channel 7 isn’t about to rest on its laurels. Pets Make You Laugh Out Loud — featuring miscellaneous animals, including, oddly, cats and dogs — will air next Tuesday at 7:30pm.
