Acclaimed Brisbane actress Helen Cassidy tells bmag what she loves about our city.

1.THE WEEKEND MARKET LIFE

Markets are peaking out in Brisbane at the moment. I love the Gap Farmers Market at Hilder Road State School — it’s not too busy and there’s so much space to kick back and enjoy the music and yummy food. The Red Hill markets, Northey Street organic markets and the Kelvin Grove markets are definitely worth a visit, too, as is the Popcorn Man at the city market on Wednesdays.

2. THE WEATHER

The more you travel, the more you appreciate the weather in south-east Queensland. Especially this time of year. Winter, what winter?

3. THE GERMAN CLUB

Sometimes we’ve been known to visit The German Club in the ‘Gabba after weekend rehearsals to partake in fine beers, delicious pork products and the musical stylings of Andrew
on the accordion.

4. AVID READER

This book store in West End is a page turner’s oasis. Head there for spot-on recommendations from passionate staff and great coffee as well!

5 THE TRIFFID

When it comes to music, Brisbane has one of the best live rooms in the country at The Triffid. Built in an old aircraft service hangar in Newstead and designed and run by musicians, the sound and atmosphere is incredible.

Helen Cassidy stars in Queensland Theatre Company’s production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull at Bille Brown Studio from 29 August to 26 September. Visit www.queenslandtheatre.com.au .
