May Day returns to May, and the Queen moves her birthday party to October.
From 2016, the Labour Day public holiday will once again be commemorated in May after being moved to October by the Newman government.
Before it was moved in 2013, the Labour Day holiday had been celebrated in May in Queensland since 1891. The rationale behind the change was to bring Queensland in line with other states.
Treasurer Curtis Pitt said Labour Day is returning to its “rightful and historic” date. He says the changes fulfill an election promise, and will help to spread public holidays across the calendar year.
“We will be reversing the LNP’s arrogant decision,” Mr Pitt said.
“We will also be supporting plans for next year to mark the 125th anniversary of the first Labour Day in May in Queensland, held in 1891.”
Mr Pitt said the decision to move Labour Day was a “vindictive” one by the Newman government.
“This day has often been considered to be simply a political day,” he said.
“But frankly (it) is all about ensuring we celebrate the hard-fought-and-won conditions that working Queenslanders have had to come through over more than a century.”
The Queen’s Birthday holiday will also be moving, from June to the first Monday in October.
Good afternoon
You are changing holidays, that is crazy. Deal with important issues. i sent a letter about a accident on the M1 to the Premier and guess what she passed it on. Have not heard a thing. It is disgraceful that beaurocrats run the Government.
We have a car that was written off because of a huge lump of bitumen on the freeway. It has obviously fallen of a road works truck.

What an absolute waste of government time, money and resources – oh wait it’s our money the government are wasting.
Surely you have better things to do than change public holidays around – Labour Day is not about an arrogant Labour Government …
Keeping an election promise to spread the days actually means spreading them, not simply switching one for the other and being arrogant about it.
Ridiculous to change these public holiday dates AGAIN!! The LNP government changed them to be more in line with the other States & rightly so. There are infinitely more important issues for the current government to address than changing public holiday dates.
What a direct waste of time, money and resources, someone actually sorted this out a few years ago and finally got it right and in line with other states. I disagree with daylight savings but the public holiday gave well planned breaks throughout the year and keep traditions to allow family time, But to change it again is just plain STUPID, I did not vote labour in for this kind of idiocy, make a difference or you to will be voted out just like NEWMAN and the liberals were. Start dealing with the issues and stop wasting time and money. Governments need to realise that the people have the power now and if they let us down then they will be unemployed too just like they have made most of us.
Election promise to spread holidays across the year….by moving effectively a june holiday back to may(public holdiday names aside), right after anzac day and easter in april, how is this evenly spread???
Also, note no comments from the opposition in this article.
