On the eve of his first Suncorp Stadium appearance as five-eight and vice-captain for the Queensland Reds, elite sportsman of three codes Karmichael Hunt has been arrested and charged with supplying cocaine.
As part of an ongoing investigation by Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC), Hunt, 28, was arrested and charged late Thursday night with four counts of supplying the illicit substance.
The investigation was initially in relation to a cocaine trafficking ring involving Hunt’s former Rugby League counterpart, Jason Smith.
Hunt has gained recognition as being the first Australian, alongside Israel Folau, to have played elite level across three different codes of sport, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Australian Rules Football.
Expected to appear at Southport magistrates court on March 5, Hunt was charged alongside two other men and a woman, all claimed to be involved in the trafficking investigation.
The Reds cancelled a scheduled media conference this morning, but have released a joint statement with the Australian Rugby Union confirming they are making inquiries into the reports of Hunt being charged.
