You can now show support and help the family of Kane Athol Bennett — who was tragically struck and killed by lightning on January 31— by donating to the crowdfunding campaign set up by his friends.

The family of the former soldier, who had served Australia in East Timor, is now struggling to deal with the immense loss of husband and father and his friends have stepped in to help.

The family of four had just voted at the Worongary State School when a fierce storm hit. They took shelter under a gazebo in the nearby park when a lightning bolt hit them all just before 4pm. The protective father took the full force of the blow and was pronounced dead in hospital three hours later. His wife and children stayed in hospital for two days with minor injuries.

Kane was known as a kind-hearted and loving family man who was devoted to his wife Mary and two children Max and Bella. After serving in the Australian Defence Force from 1994 to 2004, he then went on to excel in his new career in social work and education.

After such a tragic event, friends of Kane have banded together to help his wife and family, setting up a crowdfunding campaign to raise $10,000. There has been an overwhelming rush of support with the campaign already raising over $20,000.
