Brisbane Heat fast bowler Ryan Duffield claimed one of the “most extraordinary” dismissals of all time in last night’s win over the Melbourne Stars — and he has batsman Glenn Maxwell to thank.
Duffield claimed the scalps of Stars skipper Cameron White and Glenn Maxwell on consecutive balls in the first over. Maxwell’s dismissal is one he won’t be keen to re-live — he chose to leave a full ball from Duffield that cannoned straight into middle-leg stump.
“I’m speechless,” said stunned commentator Adam Gilchrist. “I really don’t know what to say there.
“Well may they celebrate. That is the most extraordinary dismissal I’ve ever seen in the game.”
Damien Fleming, sitting beside Gilchrist in the commentary box, was equally flabbergasted.
“I’ve never seen that before,” he said. “He’s bowling inswingers so the ball is always going to shape in and he’s left a ball that pitched on off and hit middle.”
Maxwell’s misfire would prove costly, as the Heat went on to beat the Stars by one run.
27,000 fans poured into the ground on a rainy day and were rewarded with a thriller that’s sure to go down as one of the best games of the KFC Big Bash season.
