The city’s highest achievers are putting us on the map.
What do Keith Urban, Darren Lockyer, Easton Pearson, Li Cunxin, Sheppard, Dami Im, Matthew Hayden and Professor Ian Frazer have in common? They’re all part of a team that Lord Mayor Graham Quirk wants you to join.
This morning, atop the Gallery Of Modern Art, Cr Quirk launched Team Brisbane, a campaign that seeks to highlight the achievements of Brisbane’s high-profile identities while also encouraging Brisbane residents to talk up their own achievements and city.
Cr Quirk said the new campaign would also provide a strong platform to capitalise on the city’s imminent international exposure coming from the G20, Asia Cup soccer, Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Global Café, cricket’s World Cup and Test matches.
“We hope that by reminding people how well the Brisbane ‘team’ is performing it will boost further business success and create more jobs for now and future generations,” he says
“Brisbane is now ranked in the top 15 per cent of cities worldwide for nurturing innovation. We have a lot to celebrate and be proud of.
“From Keith Urban, who started out in Brisbane, to Professor Ian Frazer, whose team created the world’s first cancer vaccine, our city is teeming with incredible success stories.
“We want the people of Brisbane to talk our city up when they are travelling in Australia and overseas. But let me be clear that this is not just about the G20, this goes beyond that to acknowledge the cultural shift that has occurred in our city.”
The campaign will now be rolled out by economic development board Brisbane Marketing on television, radio, digital and print.
