Do you know a local hero? This is your chance to recognise them.
The inaugural St George Community Awards will give Queenslanders who are working to improve their local communities their due.
Six winners will each receive a $2000 St George bank account, with the overall Community Group of the Year organisation receiving a $10,000 grant for their efforts.
Ross Gillam, head of retail banking for St George Queensland, says St George is embedded in local communities and often hears inspiring stories about selfless work being done by individuals and community groups.
“We know there are many quiet achievers out there who are making a difference in their community every day,” Ross says, “and we want to pay tribute to this great work.
“We’re looking for ordinary Queenslanders who are achieving extraordinary things. They’re the people, community groups, sporting groups and businesses who are enhancing the social, economic, or environmental prosperity of their region.
“Last year our Start Something Local grants unveiled hundreds of remarkable Queenslanders who were communities creating their own sustainable gardens; volunteers producing ground-breaking memory puzzles for those suffering Alzheimer’s; community centres assisting youth disengaging from school and so much more.
“We want to reward such achievements and we encourage the community to nominate an individual or group by calling in to any St George branch in Queensland or visiting our community awards website.”
The award categories are:
- St George Bank — Community Group of the Year Award
- Outstanding Community Achiever Award

- Environmental & Sustainable Champions Award
